No not usually. Usually Balvenie is smooth as silk with no hint of smoke. Except for one week during the year. Lets call it the master distiller getting his hands dirty no pun intended. Balvenie usually relies on cask finishing think Caribbean Casks or Sherry Wood for their diversity and flavor but this release adds a bit of peat to this mix for an even more complex and diverse scotch whisky. The Peat used in Balvenie Peat Week is 100% highlands peat and does not have the medicinal notes that some find rather strong in their seated scotch whisky. Another unique characteristic about the Balvenie Peat Week Release is that its a single vintage release and only 3000 bottles are produced each year.
